Caritas Denmark is the humanitarian relief organisation of the Catholic church. The organisation was founded in 1947 and is one of Denmark’s oldest humanitarian organisations.
Collaboration and resources
Our work is based on a Christian view of human nature regardless of political or religious affiliation or ethnicity. We are part of the global Caritas network which works closely together with secular and church-based organisations in more than 200 countries and territories.
Church affiliation
Caritas is founded in the Roman-Catholic church in Denmark consisting of about 40,000 Catholics in 40 parishes. All congregations have a Caritas representative and Caritas works closely together with the 22 Catholic schools in Denmark and Denmark’s Young Catholics (DUK).
The Flame Cross as our symbol
Our name and logo signal our affiliation with the strong international network of Caritas Internationalis (CI). Caritas means love or charity – one of the three theological virtues. The Flame Cross symbolises charity.
