Organisation - Caritas Danmark

About us

The Board

Caritas’ main body is the Board, which makes the principal decisions and approves the annual budget. The Board consists of six unpaid members who are appointed for a four-year term.

The Management

The Secretary General is appointed by the Board and has the overall responsibility for the management of the organisation. The Head of Administration has the day-to-day responsibility for the administration, the staff and the finances. Together the Secretary General and the Head of Administration constitute the top management of the Secretariat.

The Secretariat

The Secretariat in Copenhagen employs 18 staff. In addition, volunteers assist with practical tasks, and furthermore, unpaid consultants assist us through their professional knowledge in specific areas.

The Secretariat is divided into three teams:

International: The international team administers development programmes and coordinates relief aid. The team is also responsible for global fundraising and advocacy.

National: The national team is responsible for national projects such as PREP courses, Au Pairs, diakonia projects and communication, collections and campaigns.

Finance: The finance team oversees and manages cash flows and budgets at home and abroad.

Collaboration partners

Relief and development work in Africa, the Middle East and Asia is implemented by local partner organisations.
Diaconal work in Denmark is carried out in collaboration with the Catholic parishes and other Danish non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Annual Meeting and Caritas Day

Once a year Caritas holds its Annual Meeting, where Board members, employees, parish representatives and our main partners from the Catholic church meet.
The Caritas Day is carried out during that same weekend. Here the parishes and representatives as well as local communities are invited to learn more about Caritas through presentations, questions and discussions.
